frequently asked questions about our masks
size guide
our masks come in four different sizes:
kids — 8 in. wide, 4 in. tall
small — 8.5 in. wide, 5 in. tall
medium — 8.5 in. wide, 5.5 in. tall, these masks also have higher sides
large — 9.5 in. wide, 5.5 in. tall
all of our masks come with comfortable, stretchy ear loops that adjust for a fit that is right for you. our old style masks were made with cotton loops or ties, which is why you may see photos on the site that feature this style. however, that is no longer available.
all masks size small and up have a metal nose strip which will ensure an even better fit, though this can inhibit daily washing. kids-sized masks do not come with a nose strip unless requested in the order notes. if you'd like to remove the nose strip option from your small, medium, or large mask, please request "no nose strip" in the order notes.
please read below for instructions on how to wash your masks.
care instructions
caring for your mask is simple and easy.
each kitterbee mask is made from two layers of 100% cotton. this means you can wash your mask(s) with your laundry as usual, using any of the detergent or products that you normally would. we do recommend placing your mask in a garment bag — like one used to wash bras, for example — to ensure they don't get tangled up with the rest of the clothes. our masks are line dry only; we do not recommend putting them in the dryer.
we recommend washing the masks when you receive them, not only because it's a safer way to ensure your mask is ready to be used but also because our chief cat officer, shay, and apprentice, sadie are both heavily involved in the day-to-day operations of the business and there is almost definitely cat fur on everything in the mask-making studio aka our dining room. sorry about that.
if your mask has a metal nose strip in it, please be advised that repeat washing may cause the adhesive to wear away and the metal strip may become dislodged.
why is one side of my mask not sewn closed?
this is a great and important question! that open section you see at one end of your mask is actually a filter pocket. you can use this to insert a filter into your mask for added protection.
pro tip: the kitterbee household uses these with simple, cheap coffee filters! you know, the round ones with the ridges? simply fold them in half and insert them into the pocket, ridge half up toward the nose of the mask. replace your filter every time you go out.
does my purchase give back?
in fact, it does! 20% of each sale is donated to organizations fighting for racial justice via actblue. you can learn more about how we give back here.
return policy
due to the nature of the product, and the ongoing pandemic, kitterbee will not be accepting returns or exchanges at this time. thank you for understanding.
